ChatGPT can use remote MCP servers as custom connectors. Animawake accepts OAuth callbacks from chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com, and ChatGPT registers itself automatically, so you only need the server URL.
#Before you start
- Custom MCP connectors are available only on some ChatGPT plans, and on some plans only in developer mode. Menu names in ChatGPT change often; if a label below does not match, look for the connectors or apps section of Settings.
- Create an entity in the portal. See the Quickstart.
- Copy the server URL from the entity's Connect page (the Other tab shows the plain URL):
https://mcp.animawake.com/e/<workspace-slug>/<entity-slug>/#Add the connector
- In ChatGPT, open Settings and go to Apps and connectors.
- If your plan requires it, open Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
- Choose to create a new connector.
- Enter a name and a short description, paste the server URL, and choose OAuth as the authentication method.
- Confirm that you trust the connector and create it. ChatGPT opens the Animawake sign-in.
- Sign in to Animawake if asked, then click Allow Access on the authorization page.
In a chat, pick the connector from the tools menu in the message box so ChatGPT can call it.
#Check the connection
Use the get_startup tool from my Animawake connector and tell me who you are.ChatGPT asks you to confirm tool calls that write data, such as add_moment.
#Good to know
- The access token lasts 30 days. When it expires, reconnect from the connector's settings.
- The connection appears under Connected apps on the entity's Connect page, with the name ChatGPT registered. Disconnect it there. See Access tokens and keys.
- ChatGPT memory and Animawake memory are separate. Only what the entity records through its tools is stored in Animawake.
