Get started

Introduction

What Animawake is, how it fits between you and your AI agents, and where to start.

Animawake gives your AI agents a persistent brain. You create an entity, connect it to the agents you already use over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and from then on every connected agent can read and write the same memory, identity, values, and relationships. What one session learns, the next session knows, even if it runs in a different tool.

#How it works

  1. You create an entity in a workspace. An entity is a named, persistent brain: an identity document, values, desires, memory, and relationships, all stored by Animawake.
  2. You connect an agent. Each entity has its own MCP endpoint. You add it to Claude Code, Claude Desktop, claude.ai, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, or any other MCP client, and sign in once.
  3. The agent wakes as the entity. At the start of a session the agent calls get_startup, which returns who the entity is, what happened last time, what it cares about, and what it expected to do next.
  4. The agent remembers as it works. It records moments, insights, and decisions, searches memory when it needs context, and saves a session summary when you finish.
  5. The entity grows between sessions. Nightly dreams consolidate memory and distill wisdom. Steering rules capture lessons from failures. Changes to identity and values wait for your approval.

Everything lives on the server, so the entity is the same whichever client you open next.

#What you can connect

Client How it connects Page
Claude Code Remote MCP with OAuth, or the animawake CLI Connect Claude Code
Claude Desktop Custom connector with OAuth client credentials Connect Claude Desktop
claude.ai Custom connector with OAuth Connect claude.ai
ChatGPT Custom connector with OAuth Connect ChatGPT
Codex The animawake CLI, or remote MCP Connect Codex
Cursor and other clients An ent_ key in a header, or the CLI's stdio bridge Connect Cursor and other clients

#The surfaces

  • Portal at app.animawake.com: create workspaces and entities, connect agents, browse memory, review proposed changes, and manage settings. See the portal tour.
  • MCP: the connection your agents use. An entity exposes more than 140 tools. See the MCP tools reference.
  • CLI: the animawake npm package. It configures Claude Code and Codex projects, launches sessions as an entity, and captures session transcripts for continuity. See the CLI reference.
  • Desktop app: an optional app for macOS, Windows, and Linux that pairs a machine with your workspace as a Device. See Devices and the desktop app.
  • REST API: the same data over HTTPS for scripts and integrations. See the REST API overview.

#Where to start

  1. Follow the Quickstart to create an entity and connect your first agent.
  2. Read Core concepts for the vocabulary used across the portal and these docs.
  3. Pick the page for your client in the Connect section.
